Part 2 Knowledge
Knowledge is the second major part of creating success. Without knowledge it is impossible to take massive and effective action to create success.
It doesn’t matter what you are trying to succeed at;
Personal Development, Weight Loss, Business, Leadership, Friendship, etc.
These success skills will cross over in some manner. Most of this training will focus on success in business (network marketing) because most people reading this are looking to succeed in this area. Just keep in mind as you read these skills are universal.
The longer I’m involved with teaching people how to succeed in a home based business the more I am amazed with how out of touch with reality most people have become.
Now I don’t blame them, I blame all of these get rich quick jiggy schemes, with unrealistic promises of overnight riches on autopilot. If this was true and was possible don’t you think everyone would not only know about it but most would be doing it already?
They doesn’t exists trust me, I would have found it by now. I am presented 5 to 10 new businesses a week. And 19.9 of them are gone in 6 months to a year.
So the very first thing you must realize is creating a successful business takes time. Gaining the proper knowledge takes time. Implementing what you have learned properly takes time. This is a fact of life not business or network marketing in general.
Whatever kind of job you hold now or business you own, did you have the knowledge and skills you have today when you first started? Naturally the answer is no. It took you time to learn and develop those skills, and become better at what you do.
Network marketing is no different. You can’t just hop in and flip a switch and be successful. This would be the equivalent of watching an episode or ER, then hoping in your car driving down to the local hospital and performing surgery on someone. It’s just not realistic.
But you can earn while you learn. Unlike becoming a doctor you don’t need to invest 100k plus and 10 years of your life before you can return dime one. In network marketing you are compensated on an ongoing basis while you learn the necessary skills to change lives and create income and time freedom doctors could only dream about. You can also do all of this part time, around the family, around your current job and life.
I apologize for getting long winded, but I wanted to make sure everyone understands how and why to have realistic expectations of what I am about to teach.
On with the training,
In order to use knowledge to find success there are two keys.
- Key 1: Having or obtaining the knowledge
- Key 2: Having a road map to put this knowledge to work for you.
We’ll start with Obtaining the knowledge.
There are also two different ways to gain knowledge.
- Book knowledge
- Knowledge obtained from experience.
Book Knowledge:
This is knowledge you can learn from some kind of training, book or video.
IE: Third party information which is being transferred to you. It’s where everyone needs to start; this also needs to become a part of our daily routine, day after day, year after year.
I’m not sure where this quote came from or who said it first. I’ve heard it many times, from many different people and it has had a great Impact on how I live my life.
“In life we are either growing or we are dying”
The action doesn’t matter, whether we are talking about knowledge, faith, strength, belief, stamina, etc.
If a runner is going to train for a marathon, does he sit on the couch and eat doughnuts? Of course not, he runs each and every day becoming a stronger, better and faster runner with more stamina. Just a day or two after he stops training he begins to become weaker, slower and loses some of the stamina he has just built up.
The same holds true for anything, if you attend church regularly your faith becomes stronger, miss a few weeks and your faith becomes weaker. Tennis players prepare for tournaments with intense practice and workouts. If we need to pass a major test we study for days before the test. If we took the test the next day results would be good, next year results would be horrible.
I think you can get my point here. We are either getting better at what we do or we are getting worse at what we do. Ongoing training assures we are getting better.
I am telling you this to stress the importance of ongoing education and growth. Daily education needs to a part of your success map. Here are a few tips on how to fit it in.
Listen while you are driving. My car does not go down the road without some form of training, educational, or personal development CD/MP3 playing. I turned my car into a college on wheels. I likely have obtained the equivalent knowledge to a master’s degree from simply changing what I listen to in my car as I drive down the road. This was otherwise wasted time.
Before bed: Get in 30 minutes every night before bed. This is time normally wasted on meaningless television anyhow. Since that TV is going to make you weaker not stronger it’s ok to replace that wasted time with something meaningful. Would it be worth it to replace TV with something else if you were guaranteed and additional 10 to 20k a year? (More on this in Part 3). One thing I can guarantee watching that TV night after night is never going to create you that additional income.
So get the knowledge you need to have the success you desire. If you don’t know what knowledge you need ask someone who has already obtained the level of success you want.
It’s simple; none of this is rocket science.
Successful people are more successful than you for one reason and one reason only.
They were willing to do what took to become successful and you were not.
One more time since these are the most important words on this paper.
Successful people are more successful than you for one reason and one reason only.
They were willing to do what took to become successful and you were not.
I’m not going to get into detail on this now maybe I will blog on this later. But, every successful person has also overcome tremendous failure before they became successful. Failure is needed to create success. This leads me right into the next form of knowledge.
Real world knowledge:
This is knowledge gained from experience. It will have a much bigger impact on your success than book knowledge. Please don’t mistake what I am saying here. Book knowledge is a required form of ongoing education, you need to know what you should be doing before you can do it. Real world knowledge is a result of putting what you learned in book knowledge to work for you and seeing the result.
Just because you listened to an audio or read this blog post, that does not mean you know this information as well as the author. It only means you have a basis to beginning learning the information completely. Only through the act of doing and seeing the result will you truly learn the information.
This is the best form of education because you will see real world results and have the ability to interpret those results. Once again this is not rocket science it exists in every form of education.
Anyone who has a college degree can attest to book knowledge vs real world experience. Just because you passed all the classes that does not mean you have the knowledge to be the best at what you learned. It’s just a base to get you going. Most people with college degrees will tell you when they actually started working in their field 80% of the information they learned to get their degree was useless for the job they secured.
In our industry that number is much better because we train based on real world experiences not information. However, each and every person is carrying their own baggage, X amount of years of life lessons, failures, successes that will have an impact on how the presented information is absorbed and interpreted. This is why the act of doing is necessary to really lean what you are being taught. Make sense?
Finally we are to the last part of this training.
Roadmap to success.
Ok so now you have a goal, massive desire and knowledge! Now What?
To answer this lets put logic to use. If your goal was as simple as to drive to Florida from Texas what would you do first? Get a map right?
This is why 90% fail to reach their goals! They have no clue how to get what they want.
You can take the most intelligent person on the planet drop him off in a city where he has never been and tell him to get to 123 My Street, there is no way he will be able to do this without direction or a map. The house could be just one block away! And he will never find it efficiently or may never find it at all.
Take this same scenario with a man of average intelligence and give him a road map or GPS and he will be there in seconds. As you can see from this example the persons intelligence has nothing to do with his success. Success was found because he had the proper, tool, knowledge, directions, map, call it what you will. You not only need to know where you are going you need to know how to get there.
Now every business is different there is no complete universal map or direction to success in network marketing. But there are many aspects of success in network marketing which are universal.
- Consistency
- Habits
- Dedication
- Drive
- Desire
- Conviction
- Excitement
- Work Ethic.
As you look at each one of these words you should quickly realize these key elements are needed for success in anything. I’m not going to break down each and every one of these right now, I will go into detail on some of them in the next training.
What is important to know is that no matter what business you are involved with they should have a map or system in place which if you follow it you will have success. Ask the successful people in your upline, for this information. If they don’t have this, you need to find a new company or develop the map yourself. I would suggest finding a different company, as duplication is the key to success. If you are going to be the one creating this map you have to first figure out how to succeed. It’s much easier to plug into a proven system that works than to create a new system from scratch.
Most people who start a network marketing business try to reinvent the wheel, they try to redesign everything to fit into what they want, desire or like. They bring years of baggage with them and a large ego which will only hurt their success in network marketing.
Networking is not SALES. It’s networking. In reality, the products your company sells are irrelevant; we are in the people business. Networking is all about helping others, not pushing product.
In our world you have to get out of your own way and learn to adapt you to fit into this industry.
You will never be able to adapt the industry to fit around you.
